USE CASE

New generation of MR Tankers assisted by wind propulsion

Challenges

MR Tankers mostly operate on spot market with constantly changing routes, requiring best-in-class headwind performance. From an Operations perspective, the Wind Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS) must be compatible with ATEX (Ex rating) restrictions and compatible with air draft restrictions.

The Tankers will be equipped with our tiltable OceanWings ensuring smooth port operations.

Our value proposition

With its unique design, our 363m² Rigid Tiltable Wingsails (OW RT) provide an excellent thrust at acute apparent wind angles, while being ATEX compliant

Our two Rigid Tiltable OceanWings (OW RT) will allow 2.1 tonnes of fuel savings and 8.4 tonnes of CO2e savings per day (1). This is particularly significant for a ship fueled with methanol which has a lower energy density than HFO. As such, OceanWings contribute to achieving the IMO 2030 targets.
