USE CASE

The next generation of Bulk Carriers combining efficiency and sustainability

01.

Challenges

With an extremely busy newbuild market, retrofit solutions are essential for Bulk Carriers to meet the IMO objectives. For this Kamsarmax Bulk Carrier project, the key challenges are to provide energy efficiency while maintaining compatibility with port operations. On the one hand, by offering a wide operating window as 87% of apparent wind angles on trading routes are below 75°. On the other hand, wingsails must be tiltable to allow efficient loading and off-loading operations inside existing terminals.

02.

Our value proposition

Our Rigid Tiltable Wingsail (OW RT) offers a robust, compact and low-profile design when stowed, to minimize interference with port terminal conveyors.

With daily CO₂ savings of 8.8 tonnes and fuel savings of 2.8 tonnes, this Kamsarmax Bulk Carrier achieves a substantial reduction of its environmental footprint. OceanWings enable a large operating window with net propulsive power from 5° apparent wind angle.

With a retrofit process that can be completed in 25 days, our design enables rapid structural, mechanical, and electrical integration during drydock periods and special surveys. Thanks to our strategic partners, we have the ability to provide turnkey solutions.
